Hey guys, welcome back to Comedy in the Hammer! As always we sit down with a local comedian and let you know what shows are happening in the city this week!
This week I’m joined by my friend Chris Jarvie. Chris runs a room out in Waterdown monthly that always go to a good cause.
MS: How long have you been doing stand up for?
CJ: 3 years
MS: What’s your favourite room to perform at in the city?
CJ: Emerson 109 for sure. I’m not just saying that because I’m on there payroll. Hamilton has a lot of great rooms but Emerson was one of my first stages so it’s kinda special for me.
MS: How do you usually deal with hecklers?
CJ: Best advice I got about hecklers was from a pro who told me the rule of 3. 1-let them get it out. 2- complement them/ be friendly 3- take a shot at them and get back to your material asap!
MS: What advice would you give newer comics?
CJ: Host as much as possible. It doesn’t have to be stand up. If some one will put a mic in your hand accept the gig.
MS: What’s the one joke you’ve tried over and over again to make work but for whatever reason cannot get right?
CJ: I tried to re write the script for titanic using other movies in the plot and it has got a great reaction at some shows and boo’s at others. I just can’t get the timing down for it.
MS: Where can we check you out online?
CJ: Facebook.com/Waterdowncomedynight.
MS: Are there any videos we can see online?
CJ: Probably. I don’t often post them. I have a few that people filmed with a phone and put on YouTube without asking me. If you find it shoot it a thumbs down so less people watch it. My spelling on this is likely shit so please correct all the mistakes. Or don’t it’s up to you. Hell why not include this in the post. That will let people know how bad I am at grammar and spelling stuff.
