Hamilton’s 150th Canada Day Celebration and Firework Show!

Normally Canada Day means a celebration complete with friends, family, good food, a few drinks, and a barrage of fireworks that light up the sky! This year is different. This year there are 150 reasons why it’s different. This Saturday, July 1st marks Canada’s 150th anniversary and that’s cause for special treatment. Over the weekend there will be a myriad of special parties, events and activities across Ontario to bring in this century and a half milestone and Hamilton is no exception.

One of Hamilton’s most anticipated events is the Canada Day Celebrations presented by the City of Hamilton and RBC. Happening all day on Saturday, July 1st at Bayfront and Pier 4 Parks, the celebration is sure to be a memorable experience for everyone attending. Featuring music performances from Canadian artists Jully Black, Steve Strongman and Sarah Slean, family friendly activities, a ton of delicious food trucks and a firework finale that will conclude the evening with a spectacular display of Canadian pride.

The celebration will be hosted at both Bayfront Park and Pier 4 Park. Different activities will be spread out between both locations;

Hamilton Canada Day 150th Celebrations and Fireworks

Bayfront Park (200 Harbour Front Drive):
  • Face painting and balloonists
  • Performances by Trulee Odd Show
  • Hamilton Aerial Group performances at 3:30  and 7 pm
  • Canadian Multicultural Exchange Station (interactive multicultural activities)
  • RBC 150 Celebration Zone – play interactive games with a chance to win some cool prizes.  Meet Canadian Summer and Winter Olympians from 1-5pm.
Pier 4 Park (64 Leander Drive):
  • Face painting and balloonists
  • Performances by Trulee Odd Show
  • The Rubbily Ubdugs puppeteers perform “Wow What a Country” at 5, 6 and 7 pm
  • Hamilton Public Library Bookmobile and Story Walk 3 to 8 pm
  • Colour a huge Canada 150 themed mural
  • Meet Leo the Lion, roaming Pier 4
  • Tugboat Playground with splash pad & lookout pier with protected sun shelter

RBC Stage:

The musical performances will be happening at the RBC stage free of charge at Bayfront Park! Don’t miss out on these amazing Canadian performances:

  • 3 pm: Celebrate Canada 150 Day Opening Ceremony
  • 4 pm: Steve Strongman
  • 5:45 pm: Sarah Slean
  • 7:30 pm: Jully Black
  • 9:15 pm:  Maestro Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada
  • 10 pm: Enjoy a dazzling fireworks finale, set to an orchestral arrangement of exciting Canadian orchestral music from coast to coast performed live by Maestro Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada.

You will be tempted to try all the amazing food truck from across Ontario so you may have to go back and forth between the Parks to taste each one! Don’t forget that food truck will only be cash only!

Canada 150th Fireworks and the Best Place to See Them:

The Evening will close with Canada Day fireworks gloriously filling Hamilton’s night sky. The show is set to start at 10 p.m. so make sure you get a good place to see!

That being said here are some of the best places to watch Canada Day Fireworks in Hamilton:

  1. Bayfront Park: Why not get up close and personal? If you’re going to be at the park all day you can stick around and get front row seats!
  2. Sam Lawrence ParkIf you want to get a good view of the Bayfront try heading up to Sam Lawrence Park to watch the Hamilton skyline light up as you look northward.
  3. Along The Mountain Brow: Anywhere between Clairemont Access and Upper Gage on Mountain Park Avenue you can grab a seat and get an excellent view of the city. You’ll also get a unique view of the 150th Firework celebration!
