HIVEX 2016: Hamilton’s YP Networking Conference

Hamilton HIVE

Hamilton HIVE’s HIVEX 2016 Conference: Engage

Every year, Hamilton HIVE (Hamilton’s go-to resource and network empowering emerging leaders and young professionals) hosts an annual networking conference that aims to connect young professionals and help them to establish/refine both their soft and technical skills.

Coming up on it’s sixth year, HIVEX 2016, will take place on Saturday, November 5th at The Cotton Factory.

Essentially, HIVEX 2016 is an avenue for emerging leaders and young professionals to come together, network, build skills and learn from industry experts.

This year’s theme is focused and centered around one word: Engage.

So what does Engage at HIVEX 2016 mean?

For young professionals, this means going beyond the superficial to fully interact and Engage with their networks and community. The goal of HIVEX 2016: Engage is to provide a meaningful forum for students, emerging leaders and young professionals to explore how they can build their careers by further engaging with their professional and community networks.

So why should any young professional, student, industry leader, entrepreneur or anyone else attend this year’s HIVEX 2016?

Well, here’s why:

Keynote Speaker

This year’s Keynote Speaker is Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO of CivicAction.

Sevaun Palvetzian has been CEO at CivicAction since January of 2014. Before CivicAction, Sevaun held several senior executive roles within the Ontario Government including leading the Ontario Place Revitalization project and launching the Youth and New Professional Secretariat – a government-wide strategy to attract and retain future generations of leaders which included launching the award-winning Learn and Work Program for at-risk youth.

15+ workshops to attend, meaning there’s literally something for everyone in terms of topics and your current career standing (YP, intermediate, executive, etc.).

Some of the workshop topics include: The Engaging Pitch: Connect with Others; Defining a Community; Our Future Hamilton; How to Have Better Ideas More Often; and Guardian of Your Galaxy.

An Amazing Lunch

This year, Ramped Up Catering, a local and modern Hamilton catering business that focuses on preparing local, unique and impressive (trust me, they definitely are) dishes for any Event and occasion.

Some items from their fall menu include: Pork belly sliders, pot pie spoons, coconut shrimp, seared salmon, braised beef short rib, and molten chocolate cake.

Post-Lunch Energizer

Don’t be too concerned about getting full and tired from that amazing lunch (mentioned above, in case you missed it). Momentum Fitness, a local Hamilton fitness gym that provides workout classes and personal training services, will be running a post-lunch energizer session. That means you can thank them for letting you completely enjoy your lunch without worrying about falling asleep afterwards.

Momentum Fitness has also just recently signed on HIVEX 2016 as an official partner. Checkout all of the HIVEX 2016 partners.

Networking (of course)

Afterall, HIVEX 2016 is a networking and business Event. You’ll have the opportunity to network and Engage with an amazing group of individuals ranging from student and entrepreneurs to young professionals and industry leaders. Something that, in my opinion, is invaluable and extremely important no matter how far into your career you stand.

The important thing to remember is the theme of this year’s event: Engage.

If this is your first event of this type or you need to brush up on your skills, just read this article we published recently about The Do’s and Don’ts of Networking Events. You’ll thank us later.

HIVEX 2016 After-Party

All good things always come to an end, but not so soon! Before you part your ways, enjoy a little post-conference celebration to end things off the way they should end.. with some beer, of course! This year’s after-party will be presented by Collective Arts Brewing Co.

Registration for HIVEX 2016 is done on our Main Website ( The registration/ticket fee covers the full-day conference, breakfast, lunch, coffee, tea and access to the HIVEX after-party and community trade show. Early bird pricing for tickets officially ends October 10th, so get them before the price goes up!

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to Engage and join 300+ emerging and established leaders, working professionals, post-secondary students, recent grads, entrepreneurs, artists, freelancers and more at The Cotton Factory for a full day of thought-provoking speakers and skill-building workshops.
